MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Oceanside, Ca – A couple weeks into the New Year, those that are sticking to their resolutions to eat healthier and exercise more often have resources to meet their goals. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton employs several nutrition experts who work on base to assist Marines, Sailors and military dependents to understand how to track their diet to properly nourish their body and exercise to live a happy and healthier life.

 “Nutrition is my passion, I used to be overweight and when I made that change I saw how much I can help and influence others,” said Leanne Miyasaki, health promotion coordinator, Semper Fit Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) Camp Pendleton. The Human Performance Department and High Intensity Tactical Training (HITT) are here to help establish a caloric budget and help those that strive to reach their overall wellness goals.

“Nutrition is important because it essentially fuels our body and it allows us to optimize our human performance,” added Miyasaki.

Eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly is key for your overall health and well-being. We need a wide variety of different foods to provide the right amounts of nutrients for good health. 

If you are one of those people that goes to the gym regularly but does not see results, it could very easily be the food that you are eating that’s hindering you from seeing results.

Camp Pendleton offers a variety of programs through Human Performance and Semper Fit. Some of the programs and courses consist of resting metabolic rate testing which shows you your basic caloric budget, analysis for body fat and tobacco cessation course as well as VO2 max (maximal oxygen uptake) which tests your cardio vascular endurance.

“Working out and eating healthy is not a race, losing one or two pounds a week if you are trying to lose weight is pretty healthy,” said Roxanne Casinio combat fitness coordinator, HITT, MCCS.

Many times when we go to the gym we feel discouraged because we begin to compare ourselves to other people when we need to focus on our end goals and accept that it’s going to take time, pain, sweat, commitment and dedication to a life style change to achieve our goals.
