Thirty-five US Marines will compete at the fifth annual High Intensity Tactical Training (HITT) Championship at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, from September 9-12, 2019. One male and one female Marine will be crowned the 2019 HITT Champion. US Marines from all over the world competed at their home installations for the chance to participate in the annual championship. The preliminary HITT competitions concluded in July, and the top male and female winners from each installation were invited to the championship event – wildcards were also invited. This year’s championship emphasizes the tactical focus of HITT and incorporates a live –fire fitness event, combat swim, and pugil stick bouts. The championship is comprised of seven challenges, across four days. It will test the strength, ability, power, speed, tactical skills, and cognitive abilities of the warrior athletes. HITT is focused on developing and maintaining a Marine’s physical resiliency and combat readiness. There are 150 pre-designed workouts for use by combat conditioning leaders and fitness specialists. Phases of work out include pre-deployment, deployment, and post-deployment, or Marines can create their own workout templates. HITT is endorsed by the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s (NSCA) Tactical Strength and Conditioning (TSAC) Department.

High Intensity Tactical Training (HITT) is a comprehensive strength and conditioning program that provides fitness workouts/plans, facilities, and education for active duty and reserve Marines. Designed to condition Marines for the rigors of combat, HITT provides specific fitness programming to improve strength, power, speed, agility, and endurance while reducing the likelihood of injuries and over training syndromes. Throughout the Marines Corps, there are 26 HITT workout spaces within Fitness Centers, eight stand-alone HITT Centers, and 106 HITT lockers with HITT gear for quick workouts. HITT focuses on a Marine’s physical resiliency and combat readiness. The HITT Championship is an annual event that brings together the top male and female warrior athletes from each installation in a culminating competition. Competitors are challenged on both their mental and physical capabilities. This comprehensive strength and conditioning program takes into consideration the physical demands of operational related activities to optimize physical performance while in combat.

FAQs What is a HITT Athlete? A HITT athlete is an individual who trains for combat using a comprehensive athletic approach. HITT athletes use all facets of strength, power, speed and agility to improve their combat fitness level to their highest potential. For example, focusing on linear speed and agility training can improve the maneuverability of an individual in a combat situation such as navigating obstacles under fire. Using these methods to train for tactical situations can give military personnel an advantage in combat. How do you become a HITT athlete? Marines can access HITT workouts online or at a HITT class at their installation. HITT lockers with training gear are also available across the Marine Corps.
